U Prep Auction 2010: Common Ground Thinking Green, Living Green

Join us for U Prep’s Annual Community Gathering and Auction “Common Ground: Thinking Green, Living Green”

Connect with the U Prep community – families, faculty and friends – and raise some “green” for our students on Saturday, March 13, at the Seattle Waterfront Marriott!

A puma parent crafted this year’s auction theme, “Common Ground: Thinking Green, Living Green,” to reflect the reality of our students’ lives and experiences while at U Prep. A rich part of our students’ education is learning how to learn, grow and adapt in a changing environment. The sustainability or “green” conversation that is all around us represents the rapidly changing and complex world our students will inherit, and the important implications of thinking and living green.

In keeping with the spirit of this year’s theme, the auction committee will continue its efforts to “green” the event. Every effort is being made to reduce our reliance on paper, and item donation and guest registration are being offered online (as they were last year). An online auction will be offered again this year, making the auction inclusive for all community members, including those unable to attend the event. This will allow us to save on printed catalog pages, as item and event information will be available online. (Please check out the Auction Web site at http://universityprep.maestroweb.com.) While the event won’t be entirely paperless, the committee is working hard to ensure that we use paper thoughtfully and sparingly.

For the Fund-A-Need (FAN) project this year, we will be embracing another “green” theme – thinking globally, acting locally. For this year’s FAN, monies raised will be dedicated to the newly enhanced Professional Development program for our faculty and staff members. By investing “locally” in our school community and in the professionals who teach and inspire our students, the entire community benefits, as our students become lifelong learners and responsible global citizens. Truly a local project with global dividends! We hope you will support this worthy project with some serious green!

Donate an item or experience.  Please consider donating a specialty item for the auction; particularly popular are weekend getaways or vacation homes, special wines, unique dining, travel or one-of-a-kind experiences. Cash donations of any size are always appreciated and will be used to supplement auction packages or mitigate expenses of purchased items.

Donation forms can be found on the auction Web site and are also available in the Main Office. Items can also be donated online.  It is our hope that families will contribute an item or service in support of the auction.

Be an event sponsor or advertise in the auction catalog.  Please consider helping us minimize auction expenses through program sponsorship, ensuring that all proceeds are spent to support student and Parent Council programs.  We are looking for businesses or individuals to help defray the expenses for faculty and staff members to attend the event, as well as underwriting various portions of the evening. For sponsorship opportunities or catalog advertisements for those wishing to promote their own business, please contact auction@universityprep.org.

Get involved.  We need to harness the extensive talents of our community to make this event a success.  We are still looking for volunteers to help manage the auction inventory. Please contact auction@universityprep.org, if you are interested in helping.

Join us March 13 – whether you attend as a guest or working at the event, it is important that our community celebrates together!
